Dover Air Force Base is a major United States Air Force facility located in Dover, Delaware. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, it is under the operational control of the Air Mobility Command (AMC).

Key operations and units at Dover AFB include:

436th Airlift Wing (436 AW): Also known as the “Eagle Wing,” it is the host wing at Dover AFB and operates a fleet of C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to provide global reach with cargo and troop airlift.

512th Airlift Wing (512 AW): Known as the “Liberty Wing,” it is an Air Force Reserve Command unit that is operationally gained by the AMC. The 512 AW also flies the C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

Dover Air Force Base Mortuary Affairs Operations: This is the Department of Defense’s largest joint-service mortuary facility and the only one located in the continental United States. The mortuary takes care of deceased military personnel from all branches and provides support to their families. It also handles the remains of high-ranking state officials and other dignitaries.

The base is also home to the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs, the largest mortuary in the Department of Defense.

Dover AFB is also known for its sizeable air freight terminal, which can handle more cargo than any other military terminal in the United States. The base covers 3,900 acres and has two parallel runways. It is one of the Department of Defense’s busiest airfields.

Please note that the status and functions of these units may change over time, and it would be good to check the most recent sources for any updates.
