Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB): This is a 905-acre military installation, located in Southeast D.C., that is under the jurisdiction of the United States Navy. It is home to several important units, including the Defense Intelligence Agency, the United States Air Force Band, and the Air Force Honor Guard.

The Pentagon: Located in Arlington, Virginia, but directly serving the District of Columbia area, it is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense. It is one of the world’s largest office buildings, with about 6,500,000 sq ft (600,000 m2) of space, of which 3,700,000 sq ft (340,000 m2) are used as offices.

Marine Barracks Washington D.C. (8th & I): This is the oldest active post in the Marine Corps. It hosts the Marine Corps Commandant’s house and the Marines’ Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marine Corps Institute, the Marine Corps Band, the Marine Corps Color Guard, and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon.

Washington Navy Yard: This is the U.S. Navy’s oldest shore establishment. It serves as a ceremonial and administrative center for the U.S. Navy, home to the Chief of Naval Operations, and is headquarters for the Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Historical Center, the Department of Naval History, the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Naval Reactors, Marine Corps Institute, and the United States Navy Band.

Fort McNair (part of Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall): This fort, established in 1791, is the third oldest active military installation near the capital. The National Defense University is located here.
